Sports Technology in general has become a key field of applied research for the group, primarly due to the involvement in the BSc program in Sports Science and the postgraduate program in Sports Technology. The picture shows a prototype knee brace for protection of the anterior cruciale ligament developed by Sports Technology students.
We typically investigate subjects related to measurement, simulation and optimization of human performance and enhancement of equipment. The video shows a typical example: We were able to shoot tennis balls with no spin against a racket face strung with different brands of strings and record the exit velocity and spin of the ball by a high-speed camera. This enabled us to compute the loss of energy in the impact and investigate whether some strings are better than others.
